Syrinx (12 lentils )
I'm so thrilled about these beads! They are difficult to photograph however - very elusive to capture. Just like in the ancient greek mythology, when Pan tried to catch his love-the nymph Syrinx, who did not love him back, she fled into the river and prayed to not be found. The water spirits listened and turned her into a reed. Pan, lovesick went looking for his Syrinx, but found only a group of marsh reeds. The grief stricken god made a flute from the reeds she had become. The haunting tunes of Syrinx is actually also a beautiful piece for flute by Debussy (almost as beautiful as these beads!) Anyway - these beads won't turn into reeds, but they are still hard to capture on film (or digital images...)

Wow, now that you know more than you ever wanted about Greek mythology...and how the pan-flute came about...here are the details:

You are bidding on 12 lentil shaped beads in colors you would find at the edge of a marsh;  ivory, various shades turquoise, bluish purple and jade to  olive greens. The three colors I used (light ivory, transparent turquoise and ink blue) do their magic with each other, and although each bead is unique, they are united by the three colors used in each bead.

MY LAMPWORK
I use Italian Effetre (also called Moretti) and German Lauscha glass to create these handmade lampwork beads in my studio perched on a hill above the beautiful Monterey Bay in California.

I follow my creativity as I make the designs,  and if you see a design you like, bid accordingly as I don't know when the bead muses will inspire me to remake that design. (And I am so busy with special orders, that I rarely even get to put a set up here.)

I carefully create each bead over an open flame, it is then kiln annealed overnight in a digitally controlled kiln, and each bead hole is cleaned individually with a diamond drill bur.

You are bidding on the strand pictured. Photos are enlarged to show detail, a ruler is handy to gauge the size of these beads.  Questions? Feel free to email, I love to hear from you!
